The Colonial Remix
Tasks: Visual Design, Research, Writing, Motion Graphics, Video Editing
This multimedia essay compares digital media production with cultural production in Colonial Mexico. An exploration of icons, symbols, and alphabets across historical contexts. It was completed as part of a portfolio presented for a Master's of Fine Arts in Digital Media and Design at the University of Connecticut.
I was inspired by multimedia articles featured on digital news platforms, especially the New York Times' Snowfall and The Verge's Apple Watch Review. I opened the piece with a video player cover page (shown above) where the user can either watch a trailer or proceed straight to the essay. The essay's main page features parallax scrolling, large visuals and titles that break up each section, pull quotes, and images that help visualize the information presented.
